Ealing Studios-based Met Film School has launched a brand new slate of professional development courses designed to provide specialist training for specific roles in the film industry. The Pro Skills Series has been inspired by the evolution of standard techniques and strategies within the industry, particularly with regard to digital technologies, which has generated a need for skill-specific, job-focused film training that directly assists employees and freelancers to move up the career ladder in their chosen field. The Met has designed the Pro Skills Series to meet this need by providing six structured training pathways which refine existing and define emerging roles within the film industry. Jonathan Peake, Commercial Director of Met Film, comments, "These courses are unique in that they focus on the specific skills required by individuals in specific roles, rather than providing a broad base of knowledge. In each case, we have worked with industry partners to define the skills required, and have used this as the starting point for the design of the course". The Pro Skills Series has been developed with industry partners to ensure the most relevant content is being taught and all pathways make use of appropriate technology and industry-standard workflows. The Met Film School's partners in the development and delivery of this series include Ealing Studios, Fragile Films, Slingshot, PAL, Men from Mars, APT Films, City Screen, Lovefilm, Goldcrest Post, Magic Lantern, and Apple. The series spans production, post-production and distribution, offering pathways in HD Camera, VFX, Compositing, Editing, Digital Video Wrangling and Online Marketing. Each pathway teaches key skills in the specific craft area, with the aim of enabling junior staff and freelancers to move up into more senior roles in their chosen field. Whilst the current series focuses on junior level roles, there is also a second more senior level of further training in the above pathways planned for development in the near future. Jonny Persey, Director of the Met Film School, comments: "At the Met Film School we are committed to training existing industry professionals as well as emerging talent. Our other businesses and partners are crying out for access to individuals who are trained with precisely the skills they need and the Pro Skills Series offers a great opportunity for us to provide both the training and connections that will benefit both parties". :“The relaxed yet professional atmosphere at Met Film made editing our BBC3 series it was a pleasure. In terms of budget, it was competitively priced to offset its location, yet it’s position was a major plus point. The skills of senior editor Ewan Lawson made subsequent reversioning of the series very straightforward in spite of a very tight schedule.”
